You have found the the Otago Institute. The purpose of the Otago Institute is to advance and promote Science and Technology (S&T) in Otago. Science and technology includes the biological, earth, engineering, information, mathematical, medical, physical, social sciences and their applications. Through its members and affiliated societies, the Otago Institute represents an independent voice for S&T in Otago. It promotes excellence in S&T and seeks to inform the public of Otago regarding new and important ideas as well as promote the profile of the people who develop them.

Wednesday 8 February 2012: Sun activity capable of producing auroral displays is increasing and, this year we may be privileged to witness the transit of Venus, there will be not be another for 105 years. The Dunedin Astronomical Society has the pleasure of hosting the following talks to which Otago Institute members are cordially invited in March and May. Tuesday 31 January 2012: The Allan Wilson Centre for Molecular Ecology and Evolution with support from the Royal Society of New Zealand are proud to present a lecture by renowned, Professor Chris Stringer from the Natural History Museum, London, on Friday February 24 at 6PM in the St David's Lecture Theatre.
